vCargo Cloud: Integrating and Connecting Trade and Logistics Stakeholders with CamelONE

CIO VendorDesmond Tay, CEO
Trading and logistics companies commonly spend a large amount of time dealing with the documentation and connecting with other stakeholders to continue operations. This takes up a great deal of time, which these organizations can otherwise utilize to complete other important tasks. vCargo Cloud is a Singapore-based solution provider, which identifies the need for better connectivity among these stakeholders and offers a comprehensive suite of solutions and services to support functions in the area of trade facilitation.

“Our portfolio of solutions and services is focused on creating an ecosystem for our stakeholders to connect to one another to generate new business opportunities,” begins Desmond Tay, CEO of the company. Also acclaimed as VCC, the company brings a trade and e-logistics platform,CamelONE, that functions as a central hub for all the stakeholders, enabling them to connect to one another with ease. It alsouses a common internationally compliant format, which allows all stakeholders to access the information in a neutral language. When needed, CamelONE converts the information back into the proprietary format. The platform, thus makes exchange of information extremely seamless among stakeholders. CamelONE also provides an ever-evolving set of trade-related services that might have otherwise been too expensive or complicated for stakeholders to implement individually. These formalities are from all the different layers of trade, be it B2G compliance-related functions, B2B business connectivity and integration-related functions, and even B2C industry specific market-related functions. This provides a level playing field for businesses, which will encourage and promote free trade.

VCC’s CamelONE is categorized into three pillars—trade facilitation, cargo community, and e-commerce verticals.

Our portfolio of solutions and services is focused on creating an ecosystem for our stakeholders to connect to one another to generate new business opportunities

The first pillar—trade facilitation platform—is a B2G/G2G module, which serves as a Single Electronic Window system. The system has front-end applications and connectivity solutions, which facilitate customs clearance, cross-border trades, and information exchange at the government agency level. The cargo community platform is a B2B module, which operates as an intelligent and extensible digital platform that integrates trade processes and exchange trade-related information between different stakeholders to increase efficiency and productivity and at the same time, create new business opportunities. E-commerce verticals are the third pillar of CamelONE. It’s a point-to-point, start-to-finish, one-stop, integrated solution matching buyers and sellers, allowing them to efficiently and cost-effectively perform cross-border trades.

The company carries immense capabilities in terms of streamlining workflows and facilitating connectivity among stakeholders. An instance that serves as a testimony to this is the success of its initial consortium with ten shipping companies and five freight forwarders for which VCC has designed a cloud-based solution called e-freight@Singapore. This solution enables data to be provided online, preventing the need to manually transfer data from hard to soft copy. With companies like DHL and Avago as part of the consortium, VCC has managed to populate 95 percent of the data when the packages come in for shipping.

VCC continuously works towards bringing new functionalities to its platform, identifying the evolving requirements of its stakeholders. For the near future, the company considers blockchain technology and smart documentation to be the key functionalities that it will get on board. By applying blockchain, the prevention of tampering and unauthorized amendments of the information in CamelONE is mandated, making the information practically immutable. Further, through smart documentation, VCC will facilitate stakeholders to implement indigenous business logic to their documents to maximize the advantages of electronic documentation. The future prospects for the company also involve enhanced messaging capabilities via the use of Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) technology. VCC aims to maximize utilization of cloud-based processes and documentation to reap the best out of its logistics platform and attain greater ease of operations.
